About Magenta

Magenta at Moseley Farmer's Market

Performing in Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery

Exhilarating and enthralling, Magenta is an all-female choir specialising in close harmony a cappella singing. Based in Birmingham, UK, Magenta captivates audiences with performances of uniquely arranged popular songs. Audiences will find the Magenta experience, with our distinctive performance style and infectious delight in singing, both musically and visually appealing.

Magenta has been entertaining audiences around Birmingham and the West Midlands since 2006. We have performed in a wide variety of events, from concerts to weddings to Christmas dinners, and in venues such as the Adrian Boult Hall, Highbury Hall, and the Water’s Edge at Brindley Place. We have been delighted to contribute every year both to our local MozFest and the city’s Artsfest.

The choir was founded and is directed by Liz Garnett, one of the country’s top a cappella arrangers. She works as a performance coach with choirs and a cappella groups across the world, and has published books on both the British barbershop tradition (http://www NULL.helpingyouharmonise NULL.com/the_british_barbershopper) and choral conducting (http://www NULL.helpingyouharmonise NULL.com/choral_conducting). Her vision in starting Magenta was to create a group that combined the intimacy of communication found in close-harmony ensembles with the showmanship and joie de vivre available with a larger body of singers.

“You make a very smooth. well-balanced sound, which has plenty of warmth…An immensely enjoyable rendition, and very expressive too.”
